What do you love most about doing bridal makeup, and how does it differ from other events?

I honestly love everything about weddings. For me, it’s about connecting with brides and talking through their vision for the big day. I enjoy hearing about all the details and then seeing how those elements come together. It’s also such a privilege to work alongside other talented suppliers on Waiheke — everyone brings their own expertise to create something magical.

One of my favourite parts is seeing the professional photos afterward and knowing I played a small part in those memories. But more than that, I love being part of the atmosphere on the wedding morning — the laughter, the nerves, the excitement. It’s such a special energy, and I never take it for granted.

How do you work with brides to create a look that feels timeless in photos but still true to their personal style?

Most brides first reach out through the contact form on my website: beautyspotwaiheke.co.nz. From there, I always suggest a makeup trial. A trial is such a good way to meet in person, talk through ideas, and really lock in the look ahead of time. It gives the bride peace of mind, and it also allows us to experiment with different options to see what feels most natural and beautiful for her.

My philosophy is that wedding day makeup should be an elevated version of yourself. If someone never wears makeup, going full-glam won’t feel right; equally, if she’s used to wearing more makeup, a pared-back look won’t feel authentic. It’s always a collaboration between me and the bride — together we create a look that feels true to her but will also stand the test of time on film

What’s your go-to advice for brides preparing their skin in the lead-up to the wedding day?

Two weeks out, I always recommend not introducing anything new or intense — no facials, injectables, or derma needling that close to the day. Stick with what you know works for your skin.

The basics make the biggest difference: drink plenty of water, and keep your skin hydrated. Using a good hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and peptide serum in your routine will help the skin look plump, radiant, and ready for flawless makeup.

What trends are you currently loving in bridal makeup, and which do you think will stand the test of time?

Healthy, glowing skin will always be in. I use high performing skincare in my kit to give the skin a big hydration boost before makeup — it makes everything blend seamlessly, comfortable to wear and translates beautifully on camera and in real life

Right now, I’m particularly loving the return of blush in softer pinks and corals, giving brides that fresh, romantic flush. Paired with radiant skin, I think this look is both modern and timeless, and it will photograph beautifully.
