How did you get started in the wedding industry?
I’m a teacher by day, but I’d always been drawn to becoming a celebrant. It wasn’t until I was planning my own wedding that I struggled to find a celebrant on Waiheke Island — and it felt like a bit of a sign. The celebrant who ultimately married us has since become a close friend, and she played a huge part in supporting me on my journey to becoming a celebrant.
What type of ceremonies do you conduct?
I strive to create a warm, relaxed, and authentic atmosphere for all of my couples. My goal is always to create something that feels true to you both, considering your personalities, your values, and your story.
What advice would you give a Bride and Groom writing their vows?
Don't worry about writing them to be perfect; that's what makes them more special. Share personal anecdotes and memories unique to your relationship regardless of whether anyone else will understand them — the vows are for your partner, your best friend, not for anyone else.
What is your favorite part of a wedding ceremony? Why?
I always love that moment just before we begin, when everyone is seated, and there’s a quiet nervousness in the air. You can feel the excitement, the anticipation, the suspense. I turn to the person standing beside me, then glance out at all their friends and family, making sure we’re ready… and you can feel the energy radiating from everyone. It’s a special kind of feeling that’s hard to put into words — knowing that in just a few moments, you’re about to play a part in one of the most meaningful and cherished moments of someone’s life.
Do you have any advice for couples planning a wedding on Waiheke?
Trust in the magic of the motu. The vendors behind your day work closely together, so you can feel confident you’re in safe hands and that your best interests are always front of mind. And one practical tip — secure your transport and accommodation (for you and your guests) early!
